CSD: LED METHOD IMPLEMENTATION

Solar lights were first introduced to the village of Wollo in May 2019 as a solution to prevent elephants from trampling villagers farms by using light to re-route them on their path away from the crops.

CSD worked closely with the community on a participatory mapping strategy as to the solar light placement.

RESULT

Six months later, in November 2019 CSD confirmed the sucessful results of our method.  The elephants had been re-navigated to walk away from Wollo's agricultural crops by the CSD Method.  This resolved the conflict between the villagers and the elephants, establishing peace and harmony with nature.

WATER CRISIS

We come to the village with a specific program but in order to achieve it, the immediate needs of the community must be met. This time we found out that the water filtration system implemented by the government roughly five years ago was in need of repair. The systems were an excellent advancement but upkeep is necessary and many of the villages do not have the income to repair and maintain the large solar powered vats themselves. This leaves Wollo villagers to retrieve water from far away and polluted sources (during the rainy season, the steam is flooded and contaminated with agricultural runoff) which lead to imminent health concerns.

CSD SOLUTION

To ensure community responsibility, CSD made a plan with Wollo village to pay half of the cost to fix the water system and the remainder of the cost would be split by each family house.

CSD COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS

Custom T-shirts were donated by CSD to the entire village of Wollo to signify that each member of the village is involved and part of the CSD team.
